7 shows in 10 days…

This week started really stressful. I had only one day pause since the last Magic flute (Sunday) and I knew I would have performances Tuesday (Magic flute), Wednesday (Schicchi), Friday (Magic flute) and Saturday (Magic flute). On top of that, reahearsals of Onegin. It was too much this week for me. Especially after the last three weeks with 3 performances per week (Tamino, Rinuccio, Tebaldo). I really focused on trying to take each day as it came, but I must say on Monday I was very overwhelmed by the situation. I know I was feeling like that, because I was already tired of the last few weeks, especially from the last one. On Sunday of last week after our performance of Magic flute I felt really tired vocally. I did nothing wrong with my voice, it was just a bit too much singing and of course the voice is a delicate instrument. In the last feew weeks pair to the performances I have been practising and learning Lensky (in Russian). Due to the nature of the language, the formation of some of the consonants are new to me. The adaptation of these consonants to the singing takes some time but I am glad of the progress I have made until now. I must however, go further with the preparation of this beautiful role.

Now Sunday, finally free day for me. Last night Tamino went really well and the performance was a success. I am glad I managed well the seven performances in ten days. It was crazy. I think I never had seven performances in ten days, singing only main roles. Five performances of Magic Flute and two of Gianni Schicchi. On Wednesday we had our last Schicchi, I must say I have learnt a lot from singing this role, it was a challenge and through the performances I was able to get more and more comfortable with the role and I am glad I got the chance to sing Rinuccio and enjoy doing this beautfiul and fun opera.

It was nice that some colleagues came to me during the performance last night and acknowledge that it has been really busy for me and that I was able to sing all the shows well. Some even ask, how I was doing and how was I able to sing so much without making my voice kaputt. I said it was not easy but fortunately I take care of my voice as much as I can. I do also believe it is the technique I have right now after the many years of training without stoping ever, to get better at my craft.

I hope you are well and I wish you a nice week ahead of you.
