Friends, Family, Aki...
Hi there, this week has been also a busy one, and one with some changes. After having last week my aunty and cousin Andy and my Papa here. This week started only with Akiho but on Tuesday we said bye bye, because she went back to Germany to start working at her new theater. I am really happy for her that she makes a step further on her career and I wish her all the best in this new chapter of her life. I, on the other hand stay here this week and next week I will fly to Japan.
This week on Monday we went together with our colleague Alejandro Larraga who also lives in Germany but comes from Veracruz to la "Ciudadela" to buy all traditional mexican souvenirs. Both flew in different flights back to Germany on the same day. On Tuesday as I mentioned we left Akiho at the airport. She is well and safe in Germany and had no complications with her flight or at the airport. But, before she left we went that last morning to cafe "El Jarocho" in Coyoacan for a coffee and her mocha doughnut, on her opinion and mine probably the best doughnut in the world we have ever tasted. Then we had a very nice lunch at a mexican traditional restaurant with some family. We met my other cousin Alejandro and his wife Laura for the first time on this trip and for Akiho and them was the first time they met.
On Wednesday and the following days I kept studying Japanese, walked a lot at the city center, went to some museums among them the Franz Mayer to see the expo of World Press and one of Steve McCurry, and they were both impressive and I just loved them. I met some friends and had very nice coffees, I am exploring Col. Roma and finding my favorite places to have a delicious cup of coffee. I am also planning my schedule more or less for the trip to Japan. I keep also reading the Daily Stoic (Ryan Holiday).
On Saturday we went my mother and I to the city center to see a concert at the Post Office, a very beautiful one, called "Palacio de Correos" next to Bellas Artes, you should google it to check the style and form it is worth having a look. The Opera Studio from the Opera Bellas Artes, were performing a very short version of the opera "Carmen" and we really enjoyed it. It was very moving to see the young singers giving their best among all the noises of a public space at the heart of the city and on weekend. If you can imagine the noise "good" then, double it!. That is how loud it was, nevertheless, they were never distracted by it. I also met with the Opera Director of the Studio which is Maria Katzarava which is a very famous soprano here in Mexico, and with whom I had the chance to sing with, back in my times as student here in Mexico, so, more than 15 years ago. I remember she started to become a star really young and she left Mexico to do a very good career in USA and Europe. Back when I was student at the Royal Academy of Music I saw her Juliette in Gounod's Roméo et Juliette along side of Piotr Beczała ( great tenor of our times) at the Royal Opera House in London. Anyways, I managed ot greet her and chat a bit with her. It was really nice and I am glad she is doing something for the future of our singers in Mexico.
Finally on Sunday I met one of my best friends and his family with new amazing little baby. I also managed to see one uncle that I have not seen in years. We had "Barbacoa" for breakfast (Mexicans and our light breakfasts haha), it is a tradition to have rich and delicious breakfast on the weekends. Although for me it always has been too heavy for my belly these types of mornings, I cannot deny the deliciousness of this typical dish.
Anyways, now I am tired and I did few more things this week but I am happy with sharing this so far with you. I hope you are well and see you next week. Take care.
