Lucia, Covid...
Hi there! As you read last week, I had Covid but finally on Wednesday I tested negative and my symptoms were getting less and I felt slowly better. On Thursday we had performance of Lucia, it was challenging but in the end all went really well. I was concern not so much about the voice but rather if I would have enough stamina to finish the performance, as Edgardo gets more challenging the closer to the end, and it is very energy consuming the whole final of the opera. I was really paying attention to how I was singing the role, and I was very discipline during warm up to check how my voice was. At the beginning it was a bit hard and not flexible. There were some notes during the show that were a tiny bit flat, which is very rare that such things happen to me, but I knew the voice was still recovering from Covid and being not active for around 5 days without singing. During the performance by the second half my voice and body were complietly active and I found a good balance, and there I knew I would manage all the way til the end. I am glad I challenged myself to do the performance. The Theater gave me the possibility to not do the show and focus on complitely recovering for our upcoming Tito performance tomorrow (Monday), but I decided to sing Edgardo as a personal challenge and I knew that singing it would give me a real view of how my voice was, and how fit I would be for Monday. Now after 3 days of rest and conitnue to recover, I think tomorrow (Monday) I will be able to perform Tito in a good way.
This week I decided to open a book I have started few years ago. The book is called "Jerusalem the biography" by Montefiore. It is a very well written book about the history of Jerusalem since the last 3000 years more or less. It is arranged chronologically and I highly recommend it. I also ordered online a book to learn Japanese, I must confess I am so far from even learning the basics, although I started to study already. Japanese is such a complex language that requires so much effort and dedication. I however try to learn at my own speed. Being Mexican, speaking in English most of the time and also learning and speaking German, makes it difficult to have brain for yet another language and specially the energy to learn it. I speak most of the time not even in my mother tongue so I know it will take years for me to learn Japanese. I hope that I will be able to make a trip to Japan just to learn it, to go into a school and be there for couple of months, to really grasp the basics and be able to speak simple conversations, I have trust that in some years I will be able to speak normal conversations with japanese people.
Tomorrow as I mentioned I will have Tito and on Wednesday will sing again Edgardo, so I will have a active week and with these two roles is more than enough to feel challenged, in a good way and I am looking forward to it.
I hope you stay healthy and take care, see you next week here.
