Premiere Lucia…

Hi there!

So, finally last night we had our premiere of Lucia di Lammermoor. Finally made my debut as Edgardo and Akiho her debut as Lucia. It was a very nice but challenging performance for me. Yesterday, I managed to get the right balance on my mind and voice. I am by nature a nervous person, and every time I go on stage I must really pay attention that I am calm but active. I must make sure that I am mentally tight but physically loose.

As I wrote in one of my previous blog, I was in Paris few weeks ago, where I had the opportunity to meet few times the reknown tenor Javier Camarena and to see him perform Edgardo at Opera la Bastille. That encounter was really significant for me in a very deep personal level as well as artistic. I got so much inspiration and motivation from him, I will be forever grateful for the time we mananged to have and the conversations we had. Like 2 weeks ago, I shared to him a cadenza that I wrote for the ending aria of Edgardo as an alternative to the most traditional one, he really liked it and he encouraged me to do it and to believe in it. We talked a lot about the style and the reasons behind the cadenzas, that each suited a very specific singer, so, finding my own cadenza that suited me was very important for me to sing this aria in a very personal level, more aligned to my own vocal capacities. In the end it was very well received by my colleagues and team at our production, for that I am glad, and I am grateful to Javier who gave me the confidence to find my own voice in this belcanto master work.

I am looking forward to the next performances and keep developing and discovering this beautiful part of Edgardo. I am also looking forward to see how I manage to sing at the same time Tito and how these two characters will influence each other. To be in a German ensemble it is often that we sing different repertoire at the same time, several operas with different vocal characteristics and demands. Next week I have on Friday Lucia and on Sunday TIto. In the next few days I will have a much needed rest after these last very intensive days.

I hope you are well and please take care. See you next week here.
