Edgardo, Tito, Cold...

Hi there!

This week I got sick, I felt already last Sunday a bit weird and on Monday I was eventually with a sore throat and congested nose. I had to cancel some rehearsals this week, including the piano dress rehearsal and the Sitzprobe with the Orchestra. I managed to come back to sing on Thursday and Friday for staged orchestra rehearsals, but not complitely healthy yet. Yesterday (Saturday) I had a performance of Tito, and I can tell you it was hard, specially cause my nose is still congested and my throat still a bit red, all the sensations in terms of resonance change somehow when you are sick. It was difficult for me to find a balance in my voice yesterday, and also I was mentally tired after the whole week. Still, the performance went really well, I mananged to sing all of it but I had to be really focused, and really concentrate on singing as healthy as I could, and also being in the role as Tito.

I am glad the theater had a cover for me last night, just in case I had to stop singing after the pause or a any point, that was a big help for me. For the first time in my career I had someone there to jump in case I would have to cancel at some point the performance. I am thankful to the tenor who came in case I would have to stop singing and I am gald the theater gave me some help. At the beginnning of the performance they announced to the audience that I was fighting a cold. At the end of the performance the public was really nice and it seems it was a very good performance in general, including all the other singers. Akiho had to cancel the performance cause she is not feeling well and she has to sing Lucia premiere next week, so we had a guest for her role.

Next week we will have the last 3 rehearsals of Lucia before premiere on the coming Saturday, so I have today Sunday and tomorrow most of the day free, before our evening rehearsal, to recover and complitely shut up and rest my voice, plus also recover from this virus. I am doing all in my hands to recover as soon as possible, but with so many rehearsals and performances it is diffuclt to recover as quick as I want, but I stay possitive. I know after few years being in a German Theater, with so many performances per season, more or less my limits. So, I have faith that resting today and tomorrow I will feel better. In the case I will not feel better, I am relax. My main goal is to be complitely healthy again, all else comes second. Of course I want and I need to sing the rehearsals next week and I want to sing the premiere of Lucia, but I have learnt to put all in perspective and to not over stress about something I cannot control. What I can control is, to do all I can to be fit again but anything else I cannot, so if I cannot be healthy for the premiere it is ok for me, cause for me the most important thing right now is to recover. I know if this happened let us say 2 years ago, I would be freaking out a bit, but I have learnt through lots of reading and thinking, to not stress over what I cannot control. Above all, staying positive is key, but a reational positive not only wishfull thinking. So step by step.

During this orchestra rehearsals this week, although me being sick, I enjoyed singing Edgardo, I of course marked few passages and many high notes, but I sometimes I did try out the difficult passages with full voice and they are still difficult but I felt more or less happy that even sick I could managed (of course not great and still lots of work to do) to sing them.

So, I will be writing here next week if I sang the premiere and how it went. Take care and stay healthy, see you here next week.
