Studying, Luise, Wozzeck…
This week was full of opera. I keep working on my singing and arias for audition and on what Javier recommended me. I also decided quite spontaneously to go next week to Parma to take part for 3 day course lead by the legendary Renato Bruson.
Luise by Charpentier just premiered yesterday at theatre Chemnitz and my Akiho had a very nice debut in a pretty modest role but she does that also brilliantly and she shines on stage. Luise, somehow the way is orchestrated and written is a bit too dense and somehow I do not understand completely the structure of it I guess, but it would not surprise me that is not such a hit in theatres. There are nice moments but I do not see a whole picture clearly of what the form is. The staging is sometimes interesting but the concept was a bit to abstract. Only when Akiho explained to me what the stage director intended then I understood but, already the music is somehow difficult to understand to me and adding that also the unclear staging, made it not so enjoyable for me to watch and definitely not so accessible to appreciate in its full, although I have to say the idea of the stage director is really clever.
Today we saw together in Wuerzburg the premiere of Wozzeck by Berg. Also not my cup of tea although it was cleverly staged and my friends and colleagues did great. Just too intense somehow and dense and definitely, Theater Fabrik Blaue Halle is not so respectful to the singers. I think they should have used some kind of amplification because the orchestration was incredibly loud directed and to musical ears is really irritating and frustrating to put singers under this difficult acoustic to perform this kind of repertoire. This repertoire in that place is just wrong in my opinion. Nevertheless, I was happy to see how good job my friends did on stage and how committed they were during the performance.
I keep doing 4 times a week exercise and my daily reading. Please take care and see you next week.
