Hoffmann Premiere, Brené Brown…

This week we finally had the last rehearsals of Hoffmann, and finally last night (Sunday 2, October) we had our premier. Akiho had a fantastic evening, she did a great Olympia, the audience really loved her. My two small roles went really well and I enjoyed the time on stage. Afterwards we celebrated with all the colleagues in a restaurant located in the center of Wuerzburg.

I have been reading Brené Brown's book " Dering greatly" and I have started to read Ryan Holiday's new book " Discipline is destiny". I am also preparing Tito and Edgardo, I am reading the music and listening to recordings wtih different versions and also different versions of the arias with many tenors. I do love this part of the process, by listening to singers and getting ideas and feeling inspired, as well as learning and discovering the different interpretations of the music by the greatest conductors.

This week during I was jogging I was listening to some podcast and in one of them by Ryan Holiday, I learnt about the incredible live, challenges and achievements of one of the greatest athletes called Jim Thorpe ( you should google it). What an amazing story! I went through mostly Youtube Videos about his life and career.

I can highly recommned Brené's book. I learnt about her first by listening to her in a spotify podcast. She talks in this book among many other things about vulnerability, shame, parenting, courage and how we beheave when confronted to them and how we can work on them. She is a shame researcher and have many years of research backing her up and while being really informative, she puts herself as well in a vulnerable position and shares her own life and describe the challenges she also has faced through her life. I really relate to this book and the way she explains, how only through being vulnerable ( see the book to see what I mean exactly) love, creativity, innovation is born. Brown helps to understand how shame works and how one can improve when getting feedback and being corageous to be vulnerable, to be wholehearted. It also talks about trust and how it works, she also talks about parenting and advices on how to be a better human in order to be a better parent. She has studied, researched and worked with so many of the great minds on this field, so she has a very clear vision and a very easy way to explain very complex situations and behaviors. I agree with most of what she talks about in this book. I have not finish it yet but definitely give it a try if you are interested in understanding better the way you react to stressful situations and how you cope with shame and scarcity and that you are not alone, and that definitely there is an explanation and help to improve in those areas of our lifes.

I hope you are well and until next week.
