Easter…
Hi there! This week so far, had the first rehearsals of Onegin, a performance of Schicchi, two Magic flute, one was yesterday and today I just came back from the second one. This morning, I also sang in a church service some Haydn. Lucklily Friday was a holiday and I could rest my voice a bit for this busy week.
I am still in the journey of discovering the character of Lensky. I have been doing some research about it and I find the role of Lensky really interesting. I could elaborate on it, but, it would take me a few pages and I do not want to bore you. I had a meeting early this week with the stage director and we talked for about an hour about Lensky and aomw of the different sides and interpretations of the character, and I am really looking forward to working on this complex character for the following weeks.
As I sing more performances of both Shicchi and Magic flute, I do find little improvements. Specially, the aria from Rinuccio in Shicchi I slowly find the balance overall and manage to feel freer and more clear about it. As well, Dies Bildnis from Tamino is getting freer and better. As I mentioned in previews blogs, here, German theaters tend to do many performances of the same Opera, for example I think in total I will be doing close to 20 performances of Magic flute through this season. This represents a challenge in which one must keep the role in shape during a few months at a time, as well as the other repertoire. This season so far with keeping in shape Tamino, Rinuccio and Tebaldo has been interesting and in order to keep the three roles in shape I must practise them constantly. Because every role has a slightly different tessitura, different aproach on how the vocal line is written on the music score. It is of vital importance to keep studying the roles vocally and always have a clear idea of how each role is different and so that every performance of each opera is done properly. This is for me the key to keep my voice healhty jumping between roles and composers and styles.
As you may know I really enjoy reading, and lately I have been reading a lot about singing, but I also enjoy reading novels and non fiction books. This week I finished one of the books I was reading called "The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck" by Mark Manson. It was clear, insteresting and calls you to reflect on many aspects of life. Next to this book I am also enjoying reading "The middnight library" by Matt Haig, which is also very interesting and entertaining.
Next week will be also a busy one again with three performances. Tomorrow we will go to Berlin to see Travata at Deutsche Oper Berlin. I am looking forward to visit Berlin again and to see the Opera.
I wish you a nice week ahead of you and happy Easter.
