Lucia, Learning...
Hi there, this week has been busy, not with performances but with rehearsals. We started at the theater (Mainfranken Theater Wuerzburg) with rehearsals of Lucia di Lammermoor. This is a very challenging poject for Akiho and myself. She will be making her debut as Lucia, which is a very difficult role to sing and challenging musically, technically and challenging on the acting side as well. I, on the other hand, have the challenge to sing also one of the very difficult roles of the tenor repertoire which is the role of Edgardo. This is a very challenging part and is a true blecanto opera which makes it very difficult to sing properly. I have a lot of respect for this role. Now that I have already performed Tito and we are doing now performances (one coming next week), I have the time during rehearsals and also privately to put on my voice Edgardo, with all the attention that it needs. I really like and I really enjoy learning the details of the music score and the dynamic of the phrases and how the aria, duetts and ensembles come all together to create a beautiful opera.
At the theater we started with musical the rehearsals, they were conducted by our orchestra director Enrico Calesso, we had rehearsals monday and tuesday with him. We stablished more or less the character of the whole opera, and in the coming weeks we will definitely shape it and delevop it. On Tuesday we had the general meeting with the whole team to talk and present the project, with the stage designer, dramaturg, costume designer, stage director, choir and soloists. During the following days we had rehearsals with the stage director which is Matthew Ferraro and we more or less went already through the whole opera. It has been really quick but he is just for now, lets say, mapping the whole opera and in the following weeks we will work more in detail and for sure many things will change and develop.
For me personally it is as I mentioned a very challenging role but I am really focus on working smart this role and to develop the character. I also really like the music and I hope Calesso brings the opera with the orchestra to a very good level and quality.
I hope you are well and take care, see you next week.
