Tito, Stomach Virus...
Hi there! I hope you had a nice week. As for me, I spent the week mostly resting and trying to recover from a very bad stomach virus. Unfortunately, I had to cancel a performance of Tito. This week went really different as planned, I intended to work vocally on Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor) but I could not, due to my stomach problem. At least I could work on the text and phrasing and I am really looking forward for this big challenge.
This weekend I returned to the stage with a performance last night of Hoffmann and today a performance of TIto. We had a performance last night at 7:30 pm and today's performance was at 3 pm. So it was a bit challenging and I feel it is really not right to put to performances so close to each other. It already happened to me once, few years ago, where I had to sing on the evening Rodolfo from Boheme and next day at 3pm the role of Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia. I complained about it and they got luckily another Rodolfo so in the end I did not have to sing it and I could sing only Almavia that weekend, but it was not an easy task to achieve, I won't go into further explanation but it was not nice. But definitely sometimes we have to fight for our voices, we only got one and there is no replacement for it. I am just glad it worked out.
Today Tito's performance went really well. It was the second show and I am glad I felt better than in the premier, I could feel a bit more free. Also vocally I felt better today although I am sitll not completely 100 percent well from my stomach. We had a guest singing Sesto so that was also nice and interesting. I felt today throughout the performance really comfortable and focused. I am looking forward to the next performances of this opera so I can develop further this role.
As I mentioned next week start rehearsals of Lucia and I am really looking forward to it. It is a difficult challenge but I love that I can sing Donizetti again. My favorite role from this composer so far, is Nemorino from L'elisir d'amore which I have done already 2 productions of it, one at the Verbier Festival in Switzerland and the other at Theater Freiburg. Who knows maybe Edgardo will be my favorite role... I will let you know.
See you next week and take care.
