Puebla, Mexico City, Concert...
Hi there! This week was a very nice one. I was at the beginning still in Puebla, I came back on Tuesday, since then, I am enjoying Mexico City and its coffee shops. Today I went to a concert at the sala M. Ponce at Bellas Artes.
Puebla, I really enjoy being there and living the kind of chill atmosphere and beautiful architecture and the very traditional city. The city center is like going back in time and it feels really nice and welcoming. I spend the last days in Puebla with my father and we had very nice conversations, on Tuesday when I came back to the city, he went back home to Veracruz. My friends Omar and Elisa are very nice and I am so grateful they provided us with the accomodation. On Monday night we went all to see the "Lucha Libre" and had lots of fun and many action was seen at the arena. It is a very Mexican tradition to see this show, which is so funny and acrobatic. There were even wrestlers who are fighting since I was here in Mexico, more than 16 years ago and still going on. One of them is over 60 and he was so slow and of course it was mostly because he is a kind of leyend of the sport that he still gets a lot of attention and cheering, his name "Atlantis". If you ever visit Mexico you must not miss "las luchas".
Now back in Mexico City, I am working on my singing and as I mentioned, trying many coffee places. Also buying some to take home in Germany. Being in Mexico City is great, lots to do and plan. The only obstacle is the distances and the traffic of the city, which are 2 big factors for not doing also lots of things cause it takes a lot of time to get from point a to point b. Nevertheless I have done enough, with the little time I have here in Mexico. This weekend was the Coffee Expo and I went on Friday. It was great and lot of different stands and brands and all about machines and anything to do with Coffee. There I met some baristas I met back in Puebla. One of them was compiting on the Hand Brew National Competition. It is great to make connection with coffee people here in Mexico and make friends. I will make sure to keep in touch with them so, for the next time I come to Mexico to catch up with them and maybe bring them some coffee from Europe.
This week also met some friends and family and enjoying their warm company. The concert today was with M. Luisa Tamez which is a mexican singer, Mezzo, with many decades of trajectory and career. She must be now in her late 60's and she still has a very round and powerful voice. She sang Wolf, Shubert, Falla, among others. For her age she did great, the German was good but it could have been more precise and clear, there were chunks which I complitely did not understand, but I think it was more a technical problem and not so much the lack of Language. The pianist was just bland and not expressive and he did not understand that Tamez needed more space between phrases to breath and change colors on the music, he really did not even try to follow the colors of the melodies he was palying. It is a shame cause the musical level of the singer was way above of the pianist. Specially in a Lieder, Song concert you need a pianist that matches with the energy and expressiveness of the singer, in order to make duet and ensemble and travel through the colors and phrasing that the composer offers to you on a silver plate. For all that she did great. The concert was of a good timing and she had a great conneciton with the audience while explaining the songs she was going to interpret.
I continue reading Holiday and Tolstoi, also, doing my 4 times per week routine exercise. Take care and see you next week.
