Tamino, Lensky, Seneca…

Yesterday, I had performance of Magic Flute, it went really well and I am glad I get to sing Tamino in Germany. I sang it back when I was living in Switzerland, but I was looking forward to sing it here in Germany, and finally I got the chance. I am glad it came again now when I am 36, so I can really enjoy it and be vocally more secure and adecuate for the role. The only struggled I had yesterday was that I am fighting a weird cold since few days but luckily has not yet gotten in my throat. So my voice is still ok and the performance went really well.

Now we are approaching the end of May and it has been a nice month. Working on Lensky has been really entertaining. Singing in Russian has been a really nice experience. German is definitely more difficult to sing than Russian. With this particular role the most difficult thing was to learn the text and memorize it. The music of Lensky is really nice and very well written for the tenor. It has lots of beautiful phrases and there is a big room for interpretation. We had this week our first musical rehearsals with the orchestra. I find the music really well written for the singers, though in some cases very central and even low, but mostly very comfortable to sing. I find the biggest challenge is with this particular music in the dramatic part of it. It is really romantic and one has the big opportunity to be really expressive with the singing and the colors that one makes.

I continue reading Seneca and in more than one of his letters he expresses how, slowly, people ( important to note that we are talking about 2000 years ago) is getting to comfortable with the commodities of the modern world and how men are getting lazy because now you can travel seated, and without putting your feet on the ground to walk, let us say, to another city. He even complains how fast the trends on the bathing houses kept changing and they must be up to date with how they are supposed to be decorated ( kind of floors, walls, paintings, windows sizes...), otherwise people just stops going to the bathing house in search for the next bathing house fancier than the previews one. I wonder if he suddenly enters a time machine and jumps to todays world he would faint, and would be in disbelief on how (lazy) comfortable with have gotten ( smily emoji).

I wish you a nice evening, till next time.
