Rehearsals, Magic flute…
Hi there, this week we had stage reharsals of Magic flute, we made some changes in the cast so we needed to rehearse more, plus the person doing the staging was adding some new ideas on how to interpret some scenes. We had premiere today at 6pm, it went really well, also our conductor was a different one from last year, so we did rehearse with him in some places musically different from what we did last year. It was interesting overall to do some changes on the staging and the way some musical numbers were directed. However it was nothing absurd or bad I would say, just different.
I am also currently planning my summer, and talking about it with Akiho is important right now, cause she is moving to Chemnitz and we have some planning to do, as our summer together will be shorter and many things have to be arranged (flat, transportation, summer trip, new singing roles, etc.) before the end of July plus, we have several performances here at the theater.
This week I was really focused on taking again the role of Tamino and use my current way of singing to add to the interpretation I did last season of this production. I liked the way is coming together, I also feel more free with singing Tamino, although I still feel better singing in Italian I must confess. All the consonants and close vowels make singing in german really challenging specially for a latin speaker. I am Mexican and it has taken me years to really get a good level of singing in german and making the text really clear. It is hard work but once you get it, it is really satifying because you put the work, and it pays off. I really believe that only because I am living and working in Germany since years I am able to sing good in German Operas. To fine tune your ear is something that requires a lot of work and patience and discipline to really hear and understand and reproduce the right sounds. So, to translate what you hear and understand in your brain and put it into the sound you produce is not something so easily done, for that, you need training. As a spanish speaker is a big compliment when someone comments how good they could understand my Tamino or any other german that I sing. This is nice to hear but I keep working to improve cause there is always ways to do things better.
I hope you are well, take care and see you here next week.
